The idea
An online space where workers/trade unionists/grass roots activists, can meet to organise, develop and refine their plans and concepts for the ‘just transition’ within their industries in response to global climate chaos and from economies based on carbon excess to… something different.
What social need does it address?
What is the ‘something different’? We don’t know, but Just Transition should be a space where globally diverse solutions and success stories can be shared. The workers in the global energy, transport, food industries need to retool and re-engineer their workplaces to protect themselves from a future of drought, flood and famine, and this will involve sharing knowledge and skills on an unprecedented level.
What’s new about it?
Other responses to climate change focus on the demand side of the carbon economy; turn off those lights, turn down the central heating, just say no to plastic bags. Just Transition reverses this, as workers within the carbon economy tackle how they can effect change from within.
