Social Innovation Camp’s lucky seventh project: the Carbon Co-op

The votes are in!

The Social Innovation Camp judges chose six ideas from the 115 that were submitted for December’s Social Innovation Camp. But there were four others they just couldn’t decide between and we’ve got space to fit one more idea in at the weekend.

So we decided to ask you which of these four you’d like to help develop at Social Innovation Camp, 5th-7th December as our lucky seventh idea.

Voting closed at midnight, Sunday 23rd November and Carbon Co-op is a clear winner with 161 votes:

Household renewable energy technologies are often too expensive for ordinary people to invest in. Carbon Co-op is all about helping people club together as a co-operative to buy themselves and their neighbourhoods new technologies to generate their own power supply.

The next step is to find the people who can come and help build Carbon Co-op and our six other projects. So we’re looking for talented individuals to provide technical and creative input for the Social Innovation Camp weekend, 5th-7th December 2008. If you’d like to join us, tell us what you’d like to work on and how you can help here.

But we hope this isn’t the end of the road for any of these ideas: their part in the Social Innovation Camp process has resulted in mini-campaigns through Facebook, film, university lectures and mailing lists. And we hope this gives them some momentum to develop further!
