We’re back:
Social Innovation Camp Scotland Part 2!
It’s been almost exactly 2 years since we launched our great trip to Glasgow in June, 2009. Since then, we’ve run JailBrake, a Social Innovation Camp focused on ideas to break the cycle of youth offending, launched our accelerator programme, Bethnal Green Ventures and supported other people running Social Innovation Camps in 7 different places around the world.
But we had such a great time meeting loads of fabulous, dedicated, and talented people last time in Scotland, and we couldn’t get enough. We’re really pleased to announce that we’re coming back to Scotland — Edinburgh, this time — in June!
From Friday 17th to Sunday 19th June 2011 at Informatics Ventures at Edinburgh University, we’ll be attempting our usual trick and bringing together some of the best of the UK’s software developers and designers, together with those at the sharp end of social change. They’ll have just 48 hours to build some web-based solutions to a set of social problems – from back-of-the-envelope idea to working prototype, complete with software.
But first off, we start with a call for ideas: we want to find the most exciting ideas for how the web could change stuff that really matters. You can enter your idea when our call opens on the 28th March. And remember you don’t need to be based in Scotland to get involved.
But if you can’t wait till then, you can always get in touch if you’d like to find out more.
Tackling Social Isolation
For our fifth Social Innovation Camp, we’re excited to be working with the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services to help find ideas focussed on using web and mobile tools to help tackle social isolation.
IRISS supports Scotland’s social services workforce to deliver better and more innovative outcomes for the people who use services. We’ll be posting more here shortly about the kind of ideas we’ll be helping to develop with their team.
The call for ideas will be opening on the 28th March, but in the meantime, you can keep in touch by subscribing to our (low volume, we’ll never share/rent/sell your email) list by sending mail to subscribe@sicamp.org, joining our Facebook Group, following us on Twitter: @sicamp
